Enemy Combatant Radio was formed in late 2002 by San Francisco Bay Area Indymedia as a collective radio project covering the Bay Area's burgeoning anti-war movement. Live on-the-scene coverage of the massive anti-war demonstrations was broadcast online to thousands of listeners and relayed on microradio stations like San Francisco Liberation Radio. ECR was featured in the documentary We Interrupt This Empire... and was even awarded a Best-of-the-Bay award. ECR soon expanded to a full-time online radio station with news, interview and music programming, but our mission remained the same...

We are a grassroots, collectively managed radio station dedicated to broadcasting the vibrant voices of the Bay Area community and beyond. Our goal is to train and empower youth, womyn, minority, working/lower class, impoverished, persecuted, queer and alternative voices to take back their airwaves and use them as a tool for radical change in their local and global communities. We are committed to researching the news and issues that are blacked out by the popular media and creating a space for them to be heard and utilized. Our very existence is a statement about our refusal to accept what is filtered down to us through mainstream TV, print and radio - we are disrupting business as usual by re-appropriating our lines of communication and speaking truth to power.
